The lake and the girl
The most beautiful flowers I’ve ever seen
Run along the side of the lake,
Where serenity and the wind flow together
Like osmosis and photosynthesis, within
My own heart and blossom between
Each beat of my valves which pumps
Life into each one of my muscles.

I’ve always been aware of what my body
Has been doing; when it has been growing,
Eating, drinking, breathing, resting and I’ve
Always been able to tell when each
Cut has been healing by the way the
Blood pushes its way mercilessly through
My veins as it drips varnish onto the cool grass.
Oxidising red faster than anyone could
Call it blue.

And I felt the blood swarm my organs
When I stepped into the lake, pushed
The iron tasting blade into my mouth
And fell to the bottom of the water.
And I felt the old bicycle wheel
Pierce my cranium leaving nothing left,
But my shoes on the lake side with a note.
