BURIED ALIVE

Volcanic ash and lava flow can bury one alive, I know.
but the truth of the matter is that hearts can shatter
the will to live and the courage that our lives need so.
Hearts can be broken by words spoken in idle chatter

Being buried alive by friends and family just never ends.
The quicksand of life will suck you into relentless muck
if you give it half a chance but to survive it all depends
whether you can pull yourself out or remain forever stuck.

The bills are always coming due, which is nothing new.
The struggle to stay above water is very hard, indeed.
You will strain for fresh air and someone who will care,
someone who will rescue you when you're in dire need.

It takes a pat on the back, and a hand up, at that,
for alone you cannot succeed and will not survive.
When you are sinking low, remember the soft glow
of love that keeps you from ever being buried alive.

Volcanic ash and lava flow spills into every life, I know.
Quicksand in your life will pull you into its heavy ooze.
Faith in the goodness of life ends the struggle and strife,
Optimism will ensure that you will never have to lose!
