Cold hard facts of life
Measure It

Eight hundred miles between Chicago and New York
It’s been measured, all mapped out.
From earth to sun, sun to stars,
From here to there, how near, how far….

How deep, how wide, how tall how short?
The answer’s on a scale.
From west to east, south to north,
It’s all been quite detailed.

The formulas, the recipes,
The math ... It all adds up.
We know the figures and the facts.
We measure all the simple stuff.

But, The sting of hurts, The depths of pain,
The strains that rip apart …
No scale would feign to measure that …

That wounding of a heart….
