This is how it used to be for a young GI circa 1967.
Why am I lonely?
Need I really ask?
The uniform I’m wearing
Comes with quite a task

People think me different
Not like the neighbor boy
I may not date their daughter
Nor can their Friendship I enjoy

Oh I can journey far from home
I can kill my fellow man
For this they will all praise me
Still from their homes I’m banned.
