a short poem about fathers and sons
Fathers and Sons

He walked brazenly on
No fear, no shame
Simply coated
Uneasy blame

More cloak than coat
Two indiscretions
No, three
Superficial
Could be

Nothing showing
Nothing won
Nothing seen
He was young

Not many holding the secret
Maybe one, maybe two
Many others, he passed
Swathed in three coats
Not two

Some eightly clothed
Covered faults, difficult scars
Some early, some mourning
Some battles, some wars

Moving on, still looking down
Feet and shoes, familiar, one
Timidly view face, into the eyes
Face wrinkled, worn
No fear of lies

Deepest eyes, brown, proud
Smiled deeply and knew
Takes off his coat
Given to you

No scars concealed
No blemishes, no stain
No pride, no apologies
Life lived
Alive
Not held in shame
