Awakening to the fact of love lost.
Your face flashes before me,
         And I awake without you.
This same old way
         I start each day anew.
As light in the East
         Predicts each dawning,
Why must I wake each day
         To face this mourning?

All day I reminisce of the love
         That I have lost.
And conjure plans for its renewal,
         Sacrificing any cost.
And yet with every new tomorrow
         Comes the same old longing.
Why must I wake each day
         To face this mourning?

The evening’s memories reflecting
         Times shared in our past.
Those hardest on my heart it seems,
         Are the longest to last.
Each night my dreams are memories,
In each to you I’m calling.
Why must I wake each day
         To face this mourning?
