Short poem about my first trip into New York City alone.
10/13/07

from
suburban yellow
rural spot mellow
to
coffee shop rebels
urban sprawl ghetto

starving artist, homeless
bench view of the palisades
vending machines checked
collecting coins like a meter maid
corner corn-dog ordered,
across the street from a renegade
not quelled by the concrete range
ancient voice in a modern day

exit epic autumn,
when leaves fell like steady rain
city skyline drifting,
face pressed close to the window pane
