A book is man’s best friend.
A LIFELONG BOON

Don’t look now, but remember
That it merits a look.
Not merely for the bookshelf
Is meant a lovely book.

I could have, for your birthday,
Bought you a silken dress.
You might wear it thrice a year,
Lest it be spoiled by stress.

I could have also bought you
Your favorite lipstick.
But, then, my conscience, truly
Would for a long time prick.

Silken dress and lipstick, both,
Will wear down pretty soon.
But the wisdom of a book
Will lifelong be a boon.
