TEACH ME TO LOVE AGAIN

In bitterness and regret I spent so many years,
it seemed that nothing would ever dry my tears.
Then you came along, and my world was bright,
I knew you'd get me through another lonely night.

Once more I thought laughter and love was mine,
you loved me unconditionally, but only for a time.
I wanted you to teach me to love again and yet
it wasn't right; I just could not let go and forget.

The pain of losing him was much too hard to bear,
and I was so lost without his tenderness and care.
To ask another love to step in and take his place
would never heal the pain that only time can erase.

The memories that held me captive, so unforgiving,
has kept me from experiencing a life worth living.
In solitude I wait until the tears subside and then
maybe someone will finally teach me to love again.
