SUDDEN STORM

The force of the storm came suddenly upon us,
scattering the shells we had collected over
the sand and then carried away by the dynamic
rush of tide coming in and sweeping the beach.

Remnants of our picnic eaten by sandpipers
while the pages of my book were scattered
to the wind as the relentless downpour of rain
and rush of tide again took charge of the day.

The car keys had been misplaced but they
were soon found in a crinkled bit of newspaper.
The old car had seen better days, but it started
without hesitation. It deserves a medal of valor!

Heading for the comfort and safety of home, I turned
on the headlights and wipers, We'd soon be relaxing
with a cup of chocolate. We've seen bad storms before,
but they would not hold a candle to this one!
