Poem about a sad Thanksgiving (entry for Coloring The World contest)
A Dark Thanksgiving

All the planning was done and the fixin's all bought
for a Thanksgiving feast nonpareil.
All the kids would have fun and I'm sure no one thought,
that the day would be other than swell.

Then it started to snow and the weather turned bad
and we worried about Jackson's arrival.
But what we didn't know - and for that we were glad -
Jack was losing his fight for survival.

Then the sheriff came 'round, asking if Dad could go
with him down to an unnamed location.
We knew Jack had been found, they just needed Dad so
he could confirm identification.

Five long months have gone by, since our loss on that night,
a dark Thanksgiving Day last November.
Though it still makes us cry, Mama does it up right -
sets a place for him, so we'll remember.
