About my uniformed years.
I SERVED THE ARMY

I was a resident doc
Busy treating patients;
In nineteen sixty five, Pak
Developed foul intents.

War ensued, I thought I must
Do for the country more;
As a Captain I joined the
Army Medical Corps.

While I served the Army I
Experienced many
Good and bad situations,
Sticky, gloomy, clammy.

I learned to say “Yes, Sir”, when
My mind surely said, “No”.
Forgetting rest, I had to
Go when the boss said, “Go”.

Unlike civil life, there are
No rules against the boss.
That makes sense, in fact, because
The boss averts the loss.

Wars are fought by soldiers but
Won by the strategies
Developed by the big brass,
Sitting in their office.

I was young and did rebel
Against discipline hard.
But, truly, learning it has
Been my greatest reward.
