Making friends is as simple as having fun
Winter Friends

Once upon a time,
Along time ago,
I was a young child
Playing in the snow.

I thought about Frosty,
And just wanted to see,
If I made a snowman
Would he want to play with me?

I was very lonely
There was no one around,
So I played alone
Sitting on the ground.

I made a small snowball
And as time went along,
I added more snow
And began to sing a song.

The snowball got bigger
And I started to have fun.
I started singing louder
And danced out in the sun.

I was having so much fun
I almost did not see,
That there was a little girl
Staring up at me.

She was standing on the sidewalk
With a hat upon her head.
She asked what I was doing
So I looked at her and said,

“I just wanted to have fun
No one would play with me
So I’m making a snowman
And then I’ll set him free.”

“He’ll no longer be frozen
He will move and jump about
He will be my friend,
We will laugh and play and shout.”

When I turned around
To work on my new friend,
The girl began to help me
As I sang my song again.

We finished the first snowball,
It was really big and fat.
We searched the yard real good
For some ground that was flat.

We started on the second ball,
It was smaller than the first.
Then I felt it on my back,
Snow hit me with a BURST!

I turned and saw a boy
I had not seen before,
He had a bunch of snowballs
And was trying to play war.

He saw what we were doing
And he wanted to help too.
He picked up some more snow
And asked us what to do.

So the three of us together
Were making me a friend,
We were having so much fun
I did not want this day to end.

We finished my new friend,
The girl, the boy, and me.
But something was not right
Because he had not been set free.

The three of us just watched him
As we pondered what went wrong,
And once again they joined me
As I sang my fun-filled song.

“I’ve got it,” said the girl,
“Now that he’s nice and fat,
All that he is missing
Is a warm and fuzzy hat.”

She took the hat she wore
And placed it on his head.
The boy said, “We’ve got to name him,
How ‘bout we call him Fred?”

We laughed and played the whole day long,
Oh what fun we three had.
And when we made snow angels
I noticed, no longer was I sad.

Now Fred never moved, he never played
He did not jump around,
But on this day I understood
True friendship I had found.

I’m glad I went outside
That cold and snowy day,
For if I’d stayed inside
Things would not have gone this way.

So if you find yourself alone
And no none is around,
Enjoy the day and be happy,
That’s how good friends are found.
