Grace starts a new life by running away from home and is discovered as an amazing writer.
I closed my eyes and tried to pretend that I was somewhere far off where I was. It was peacful. The ground was soft and the air around me was misty. I could hear crickets chirping and flies buzzing around the smooth glass lake. The air felt so cool and clean, but as I opened my mouth to breath in the gentle breeze I took in the the thick hot air of the small closet I was hiding in. The crickets left and turned into the sound of my parents screaming at eachother, the soft ground had turned into the hard lumpy floor of the closet, and there was no calming mist only the darkness of the small space I crouched into.
It would never go away, no matter how hard I dreamed it would. I would never find peace and there would be no happyness. Not unless I did something about it. I decided then I wouldnt let myself listen anymore. I had to get away, I couldn't take this anymore!
I slowly unfolded myself from feedlle position and quitely opened the closet door. They did not apear to have heard me, even as I made my way up the squiky wooden steps. I went into my room and found my biggest backpack, the one my dad had gotten me back when we used to go hiking together. I unzipped it and walked over to my dresser, under a pile of folded clothing was my all the money I had saved from the last five years. I threw it on my bed and counted it, I had about five hundred dollars all together. I guess that can help me a little and I can get a job right....? I thought to myself. I put my money in the small hidden pocket that was tucked on the bottum of the big pocket.
Then I crammed as many clothes as I could into the pack and saved a little room for food. Food....... my parents were in the living room and I had to pass them to get to the kitchen. I grabbed my bag and went down the stairs as quitely as possible. I got to the edge of the living room door way and peeked around the corner. My mom was shouting at my dad and my dad shouted back at the same time. My mom picked up the closest thing to her (the lamp on the end table) and she launched at my dad who just barely dodged it. I took that moment to quikley pass into the kitchen. Once reaching my destination I looked back to see that I went unseen.
I over loaded my bag with foods that didnt need to be cooked and two bottles of water. Then with difficulty I put on the backpack and walked out the back door. I ran as far as I could, without looking back. When I felt that I was about to colapse I sat on the edge of the sidewalk and looked around. I was in what looked like a rich nieghborhood, I had never seen this place before so I figured I must have ran pretty far. My heavy breathing came out in puffs of steam in the cool night air. I was so tired and it was so dark. Where was I going to sleep tonight?
I heaved my self off the curb and walked into the woods behind me. I walked in far enough that I could still see the street lights, but no one would see me. I layed down on the pointy leaf carpeted ground and used my back pack as a pillow. I closed my eyes with a heavy haert hoping that I would know what to do with myself by tomoro because even if I wanted to go back I would never be able to find my way. I was stuck in my new life and there was no turning back.
