My first conscious memory
I sat on a bare pine floor, surrounded by colorful wooden blocks. My tiny fingers built imaginary castles. I tired and the castles fell, creating a rainbow of colors in my lap.

Huge, strong hands lifted me up and away from the painted chaos. Feeling safe and loved in my grandpa’s arms, I fell asleep.
