A young teen perishes from an abusive, drunk father.
A cold room surrounds my bruised body
Nothing can mistake this for anything other than anger

What now defines my body;
Look upon my eyes
they are swallowed by black and blue

Look upon my back
Lashed with pink and red
They stretch from side to side

My black pupils fall upon a window
A window that leads to freedom

Freedom from harm,
pain,
and the darkness

Why? is the only question that burdens my crushed soul
The answer is never revealed
I scream it and yet, no one hears

I look at the door and it creeks open
He possesses the belt in his right hand
A tear of fear creeps down my face

His lips are burned with whiskey
The door shuts, and he begins

But this time I do not scream
I do not fight back
And I do not ask why

It doesn't matter anymore
For that night I found my freedom

With broken wings I flew out the window
And I was free
