Funny how the calendar and nature seldom agree
The calendar said "First Day of Spring."
Here in North Dakota snow was falling,
East to west blew 30 mile an hour winds.

Friday had dawned bright and warm.
I raked the winter debris from the lawn,
Readied it for fertilizer and spot seeding.
Spray washed the bottom deck of the lawn mower,
Tightened the spark plug and gassed it up.

Out in the street children played,
Football, soccer, and good cheer prevailed.

Saturday a north wind blew in clouds,
Propelling the temperature down below zero,
Rain turned to thick, wet, reluctant snow.
Ice covered my deck, sidewalk, and lawn.
New green grass buried under fields of white;
Going to be a few more weeks until true spring.
