INSPIRATION

Lord, I need some inspiration and the sooner the better!
I've been trying to think of something but I'm a forgetter.
My thoughts are a-jumble and my throat is quite dry,
if only I had some real inspiration, I'd give it a good try.

To be perfectly frank, I am down in a dark blue funk,
there's a tale to be told but it comes out as pure junk.
I've written about mountains with clear spring streams
and I've written about the love that's still in my dreams.

I knew when I got old there would be things I'd forget
but there must be something left in my brain, and yet,
the thoughts spin around and then quickly disappear.
This is only the beginning of my seventy-third year!

Here in my slippers, with nothing much else to do,
a blank entry in a contest wouldn't win an old shoe.
So I struggle with the verse and delete it from sight,
it looks like I won't get anything written this night.

Shame on my poetic soul for leaving me in the lurch,
I get more inspiration by going to sing at the church.
Now that is a thought, must be something to write;
spiritual poems to some are greeted with pure delight.

The snow is piled high and I stayed home from work,
my nose is running and my deaf ear can really hurt.
There is a remedy to this, it is sleep that I crave most,
dreams can be an inspiration from the Heavenly Host.

I smell like Vicks Vapor Rub and that's not a lie,
I want to get much better and give love another try.
I'm somebody's rib but I haven't even a little clue "who".
(Watch out, it's Leap year, and I may just ask YOU!)

Alas and alack, even when after all is said and done,
it will be another poetry contest that I have not won.
I am not discouraged, for there will be better days
when I write with such passion in small power plays.

Lord, I need some inspiration and the sooner the better!
I've been trying to think of something but I'm a forgetter.
My thoughts are a-jumble and my throat is quite dry,
Here it is, my friend, and I bid you a temporary goodbye.
