To Go Around

A vixen or tramp,
Or a young teenage girl
With eyes of rich, vibrant color,
Seeking lusty, wild intercourse;
Or a polished, brash, vociferous dude
Armed with fervent hope
And overused pick up lines;
Both looking for physical beauty
And sexual bliss –
And both often finding
The unending, witless truth:
Adult knowledge leads to pregnancies,
Mature ownership of now-routine sacrifices,
And getting healthy again
From infectious, transmitted diseases…
To go around the block means
Finding out that you have already
Been aware of the mistakes
That abstinence would cure;
But that instinctive passion
And incessant yearning
Take complete command
Of the innocent
