Trying to keep a friend's secret.
I liken you to the sugar maple,
sleeping in the cold of Winter,
only to feel the stirrings of new sap
that is accompanying the Spring.

I see the buds of green leaf
and am glad you have new growth,
and an awakening with April's sun.
Upon a Vermont hillside you florish.

My old friend, I like your new smile.
I hope your rediscovered first love,
brings you all those old joys,
like a handful of maple candy!
