A moment in time of a dead brown leaf dancing on a sunny day & hopes of Spring's arrival.
Dancing leaf in March

The sun shined today
at last
Spring may have begun yesterday
but the rays only hit me today

and I wouldn't dare sit inside
to eat my lunch
afraid to miss and drink
in the glory of those rays

at a picnic table in the sun
munching iceberg
crunching Italian bread
something caught my eye
I thought it was a butterfly
but it's too cold for that
instead
a brown little leaf
danced for me

danced and tumbled
looking most like a butterfly
only this one little leaf
had the honor to twitch
and to turn

I followed it's dance
for minutes
till at last
with one final graceful fall
it tucked itself into the dull brown grass

Oh soon it will be
mulch beneath the soil
never to dance again
but the green blades of grass
will poke their heads high

and REAL butterflies will dance
among buttercups and dandelions
and I will watch the dance again
alive
