A short poem written by my favorite character, Juliet Rhodes, about her life and death.
Concrete Roses

The bane of many, I have stood
Amid the concrete roses
And remembered, if I could
The days where sorrow dozes

When dragonfly’s glittering fire
And sunset’s amber delight
Fade softly on a distant pyre
Into a shimmering night

With ancient city rising deep
Into a wandering phrase
And the keening minions softly creep
Into our fragile haze

While smiling, people feign
The consciousness of dream
And the falling, gentle rain
Shows all is not a scheme

Wait for the night with me
In the concrete roses
And revel in the sunset’s gleam
On days when sorrow dozes
