A poem about saints of old - reborn!
A PRECIOUS HOPE!

O precious HOPE of hopes,
Hoped for, for so long.
O precious DREAM of dreams,
Dreamed of, for so long.
O LORD of all, and of all
My hopes and dreams,
Please, help me - for I fear!

I fear the time draws near
When I must stand alone,
Before a maddened crowd.
Poised with their stones
And, their allegations.
Each, claiming the right to cast
Them at me and bring me down.

On that day, O GOD, I pray,
Fill my soul, my heart, my mind
With such conviction in YOU,
That every allegation falls short,
Though, their stones strike true.

And, as they do, trade mine
For holy Stephen’s eyes and say
To YOUR great Gates of Pearl,
“be opened wide, comes home
This day, another Saint of MINE,
To claim his prize, so hoped for and
So dreamed of, for so long.”

Then, as all else for me fades,
Within that maddened crowd,
Let some new Saul stand amazed.
Till some dark night as he travels
Along his road in life, YOU smite him with
YOUR shining, blinding light and send
Him humbled, to the ground.

That when he rises from his fall,
He goes forth as YOUR new Paul,
To preach the “good new” once again
To this world adrift - in sin.
