A girl falls in love with a man who isn't exactly as he seems.
~*~*~Hello Everyone! I have gotten some pretty good reviews on this so far. I think perhaps I will start putting the whole story up. Thank you so much for the comments. I live for them! Please stay tuned for the very beginning and as much as I can add now.~*~*~

Kiss in the Dark

I paused in the doorway, looking down once again at the note in my hand. This was it, the place he had told me to come. Honestly it didn't look like much. A run down building in the back alley of some old city block. The door was part way open, no light coming from inside. I pushed it with my foot and it swung open with an unnatural creak. Jumping slightly I hurried forward, catching it with my gloved hand, stopping it mid swing. Inside now I could see exactly what was inside. Gathered around low tables and at a far bar sat men and women, all with the same sort of hair that Wren had. Black and white. Every single one of them seemed to be tall, lean...dressed in the same fashion he always wore. And to top it all off, they were all staring in my direction. I could feel my face blush, red with heat. Without fully thinking I swallowed and raised my hand, “I would like to try that again.” I stepped out, closing the door behind me. Leaning against it then, I took a few shaky breaths and opened the door again. This time it didn't creak like a small version of Godzilla, instead it swung open silently and  when I went back in everyone was still staring in my direction. Perfect looks of pure amusement and annoyance bright in two tone eyes. This time I kept my head down, turning my collar up to my ears. I made my way toward the bar, pausing there to look up at the tender. Everyone by now had gone back to what they had been doing, only the occasional glance coming my way.

“I am looking for Wren...Wren Talon.” The man standing over my raised one of those black and white eyebrows. He stared at me for a moment like he was trying to read my mind and in one silent moment I didn't doubt that he could. Considering all the weird stuff Wren himself could do...I figured if they looked like him, they could maybe do the same things as him. Birds of a feather...
He blinked once and raised a hand pointing down the hallway, “Go up the stairs, it's the seventh door on the left.” he lifted a corner of his mouth in a slight smile and I jerked back. “Thank you...” I stammered, bringing my hands into my chest. He seemed so cold and cruel. I stepped back a few more times, bumping into a chair. Turning with a slight shriek I stumbled and fell. A moment before I reached the ground someone was hauling me back up to my feet, “Easy there Amy...” once righted I spun around, facing my hero. It was another one of them, except his face was set in concern, dark brown eyes scanning me. I covered my face with my hands, “I just need to find Wren!” tears were coming and I was pretty sure I wouldn't be able to stop them. The man reached out and brushed a finger under my eye, catching a stray tear that had slipped out, “Hush darlin' your fine...he's just up the stairs. I'm glad you actually came...I take it my directions were written well in the note?” I stared at him for a  few moments, looking down at the handwriting. I knew something had been off about it, “You wrote this?” I asked my voice dropping into a whisper. I suddenly felt very stupid, like I had stepped into some sort of trap. I backed away from him, back into the chair, “Where is...where is Wren?” I refused to take my eyes off of him, holding tight to the back of the chair with one hand. The man stayed right there in front of me, his eyes going from concern to amusement. Other people were looking at me again, my cheeks getting warm with frustration instead of solid fear.

“Amy...chill out...he is just up the stairs. I will take you to him if you want...” the man smiled the same crocked smile as the bar tender. That was it. I turned and fled, screaming into the hallway, reaching the stairs as the rest of the people began to laugh. I glanced back and their stood the bar tender, his face broken into a full grin. I screamed again and made it to the top, leaning against the wall, dangerously close to crying. Covering my face I forced my heart to slow down, breathing in and out as smoothly as I could.

“You are going to hurt yourself if you keep doing that...” my “hero”'s voice was right next to my head, I jerked screaming again. His hand came down on my mouth and I fought against him instantly. “Stop it! IM NOT GOING TO HURT YOU!” his eyes were still soft, meaningful and after a moment I began to calm. “Damn it girl...hasn't he taught you anything about all this? You can't go screaming around people like us...” he kept talking but I wasn't listening anymore. Like Us? What was US? I knew Wren was weird...that he had special abilities, but US? I bit into his hand and scooted away from him, “Don't TOUCH me!” He hissed, waving his bruised hand back and forth, “Fine...fine...” he got up, and started down the stairs, “Have fun dealing on your own.”
“Wait!” I reached out, suddenly very unsure of myself all around, 'Please help me find Wren...Im sorry...”
