This editorial describes the importance of words in our lives.
A Word is a World
Words are the things that form a language rather it is better to say that a language is formed by them. They are the ones that give us the meaning, the essence and the spirit of language. They name things and so help us in recognizing them. Whenever we think of something we remember the word that is specific for it. Although we can also identify the things by their physical appearance but a word gives us something more that adds to its meaning.

Therefore, we can say that a word is a world as it gives us the recognition of things. Words are the things to taste, to smell, to feel, to love, to know and to experience. Every word is a storehouse of knowledge carrying a lot of associations and references. It has a unique reference system that provides us with a chance to get to their depth. If we really want to taste a word we have to search from where it was originated and what were the different stages of its development. Then we reach the real sense of the word and it can be enjoyed in the most perfect manner.

If we study words carefully and search their history we shall get to know that every word has a story. Some words have a proper story with a beginning middle and end whereas others have just begun their tale since they have just being derived by some linguist. So, they are starting their tale. They are initiating their new world with lots of new ideas and thoughts. A word has the power of making us think of different things. For example, the word ‘love’ arouses the emotions of affection, softness and tenderness. On the other hand, the word ‘compassion’ too gives rise to our soft feelings. The word ‘contempt’ has the distaste that gives us a bad feeling and gives us disdainful ideas as it is related to hatred.

Also words can be thought provoking such as ‘contemplation’. It provides us a sensation of thinking and thinking deeply and profoundly. Another very common word is ‘happiness’. It offers us a long lasting effect of serenity and calmness. ‘Delight’ has the expression of ‘light’ in it so it brightens up our thoughts and gives us the sense of cheerfulness. Joy is a very lively word which refreshes our minds. ‘Melody’ is the word that touches the strings of our heart and gives us a musical effect.

Words have their own music and melody, so, if we can appreciate their rhythmical effect as well. As we see the music word ‘harmony’ gives us a musical effect that balms our strained nerves. ‘Relax’ and ‘respite’ are the same kind of words. They give our mind a soothing and gentle effect.

However, there are some words that provoke our feelings and can give unpleasant effects if tasted. Words like ‘grief’ and ‘anguish’ either aggravate our sadness or promote this feeling in our minds. ‘Lamentation’ also touches our hearts and makes us feel sad. Also it arouses our sympathy. The word ‘mourning’ indicates the extreme grief of someone over the loss a loved one and we, too, share their experience by looking at this word. ‘Squalid’ and ‘sordid’ are the words that give us a nasty feeling so one may not try to taste them if he wants a calm and pleasant effect on his mind.

So words are the ones that make our world and if we speak honestly, they are our world. So we should give their study more importance than that of science, technology and all other fields. If we taste them carefully they can definitely change our lives so much so that we shall learn to enjoy life through the delight taken from words.
