This is a fairytale prologue thing for a story I'm working on, its still a WIP.
Once upon a time there was a princess born with the most beautiful milky white eyes. Many a tear was shed over the blindness of the daughter of the golden city; and the king and queen were fretful over her condition, for it was preached by the hooded followers of the old texts that a child born with pearls for eyes would bring sadness and curse the community she hailed from. So in their desperation the king and queen decided something must be done. They loved their daughter very much and could not let the hooded men cull her young soul, but they also had a duty to people of Cloud-Born, to the shimmering city.

And so it was decided. In the dead of night they smuggled the child out of the palace, the king calling upon the high-captain of his personal guard, his oldest and dearest friend, Arra-Kain. He begged Arra-Kain to take the child and hide her wherever he deemed safe, and keep her safe, no matter what, for he knew that once word got out a hunt for the child may begin. Arra-Kain accepted the child, as was his duty, not only as servant to the King, but as his friend. He took the child, bundled her in a plain sack, and rode out, deep into the night, using the stars as guides.

He rode for many a day and night, barely resting. Finally after a week of traveling he arrived at the home of his father, the ancient forest his bloodline hailed from, the home of the eastern wood elves, the wolf-dreamers. Here he knew she would be safe, no one outside of the walls of the village knew of its location.

For the years to come he kept the child hidden within the sanctuary, naming her Phoenix. He taught her the ways of the wolf-dreamers, raising and training her alongside his own child, his son Arra-Daédra. For all her blindness she grew with all the gusto and gumption of any normal child, her other senses heightened to amazing levels.

Then, one day, to Arra-Kain’s dismay he caught wind that the king and queen had been over-throne by the hooded-monks, angered by their refusal of sacrifice, the men over took the kingdom, ransacking the palace, deeming the royals heathens for partaking in such materialistic tendencies, damming the good name they truly deserved, for while they ruled, peace reigned over Cloud-Born.

Arra-Kain left the halls of the wood elves, returning to his post as head of the guards, now forming the secret resistance. Before he left he told his son that the girl was his charge that Arra-Daédra was to take care of the young Phoenix, keep her safe until he returned for her, bringing her back to the golden city to take up her rightful place at the throne.
