The words are: forgotten friend fire fear fog free forest feet
A forgotten but expected friend you came in.
Not like the fog of tiny feet scampering,
but with the stomp of forest fire smoke.
"Get out of the way, I am running free,
to lay your heart and soul as bare as you fear."

Not like the fog of tiny feet scampering,
but not unlike the cliches we become,
defining our broken and shattered hearts.
Some things are beyond explanation.

But with the stomp of forest fire smoke,
we are left seared around the edges,
and damaged quite beyond repair,
no matter the alarms we called in.

"Get out of my way, I am running free!"
just as a single spark produces heat,
when all the emotional kindling burns,
we are left with metaphors of cold ashes.

To lay your heart and soul as bare as you fear,
is to open yourself to pain and loneliness.
After the fire is gone what is left behind?
Just an icy twisted and broken landscape.
A twisted and broken heart; hopelessness.
