The problem with safety pins
The safety pin was dangerous
It fell from way up high
And landed on the bedroom rug
Still open so that I
Could prick my heel with metal point
And drive it through my skin.
I didn’t even see it there!
It’s a reflective pin
That mirrors its surroundings
(So it’s hidden really well) -
But why the closure isn't safe
We really cannot tell.

All preventative and crucial acts:
Accomplished in this case.
So why, still, does the pointy end
Slip sometimes out of place
To prick the one who tries to use
This problematic clasp?
And why are tiny fasteners
So difficult to grasp
For older folk who try to use
The safety pin and can’t
Because the stupid slippery thing
Won’t be attached? It can't!

So we come to the conclusion
That they're dangerous, not 'safe',
Why, even nimble fingers
Will soon begin to chafe,
Getting sweaty with the daunting task
From concentrating hard
On the tiny clasp in front of you
Which you may soon discard.
You will want a simpler method
To attach the painful thing.
Perhaps some sticky tack would do
(At least it wouldn't sting!)
