A poem asking for understanding, not judgement
Walk a Mile in My Shoes

You think you know what I've been through?
Think you know my struggles?
Honey, if only you knew.

Walk a mile in my shoes
I don't think you'd make it,
There aren't any pretty, scenic views.

Think you know about strife?
Take a walk in my shoes,
A leisurely stroll through my life.

I've seen sorrow and I've seen pain.
I've shed a lot of tears.
There seemed to be no end to the rain.

I've made choices, good and bad.
Walk a mile in my shoes,
Try out this life that I've had.

Don't be sad and pity me.
I made those choices,
I don't need your sympathy.

I need to you to hold my hand,
Say an inspiring word.
When you see me fall, help me stand.

Walk along beside me,
For just a little while.
How supportive that would be.

I'll continue this walk in my shoes,
But, I need your encouragement.
Help me as I walk away from these blues.

Alternate ending stanza: Is this one better?

I'll continue my walk, in these same ole shoes.
Give me some encouragement
As I walk through these blues
