First poem I every wrote, age 17. Preparing for graduation.
Thanks
===============================

The doorway of life has opened
And as a graduate I’m on my way
Towards starting a new life
Which begins this very day.

Stepping forth from my shell
I’ll leave some friends behind,
But a glance into the future shows
That new friends I’ll surely find.

The new friends will be treasures,
Somewhat like those of old,
They’ll find a place in my heart,
This I’m often told.

The new friends I may encounter
In no way can they replace
Those countless companions of ages
Past gone without a trace.

Tho’ these companions are in the past
And never again may be seen,
My love for them shall stay afire
And upon that love I’ll lean.

Life may separate our lives,
But we still have our memories,
A thing which nothing can take,
All those precious memories.

So I say thanks for the memories,
Of which I have received,
Thanks for the examples,
Of which I have perceived.

Thanks for the friendship,
Of which I was in need ,
And thanks for being you,
Instead of Robert Reed.

NOTE: Robert Reed played the father on the Brady Bunch. The Brady Bunch was an unrealistic portrayal of the American Family, they were fake. A reference to Robert Reed suggests one is untrue, fake or not one's true self.

Thanks for putting up with the poems many errors, constructual and otherwise. I understand it needs a rewrite. This was the first poem I ever wrote. I was 17 and preparing for graduation and separation from my best friend, so for sentimental reasons I choose to leave it as it is. Thanks for understanding.
