A prose poem about earning promotions as opposed to being spied upon.

God’s Greatest Gift: Promotions

The same is true of baseball, office work,
And the service sector –
God’s greatest gifts are in support of the talent we’ve shown:
Promotions.
Any company, business, or franchise
Is in search of unmistakably wise and thoughtful people
Who make distinguished sacrifices
To help the team achieve
Everlasting success
In the art, passion, care, and performance
Of their highly sought-after duties.
Generally, due to these consistent, timely, and exceedingly
Wonderful commitments,
The player, employee, or worker
Is rewarded with a promotion,
Equaling more pay, greater opportunities,
And grander acknowledgment
For their superior work, dedication,
And triumphant journey
Toward excellence.
But duly noted is the careful and cautious
Spying
That quite often leads to piecemeal comments
And only partially adequate compliments
To raise the self-esteem
And applaud the attempts
Of somewhat successful and not-so-scripted and valued
Associates and cohorts.
Therefore, burn the available energies
In a productive, worthwhile, and expedient manner,
For what you see is what you get,
And what you get,
You may not know…
