This is something I have just had a utge to write on here :/
The child stood, back against the side of the car, looking left and right. His chest expanding rapidly in the echos of the fight down the road. he didnt know where to go. in front of a house, reminiscent of happier times.

"Alex's house" thought the boy as he started to regain his place. looking left down the hill was a farm. Soldier's surrounding it, taking aim and releasing the hot lead if they got a chance. The boy slowly, tentatively as not to make any noise. climbed the cold, plae grey steps to the front door. Looking through the side window, nothng. He pushed the door and it swung open almost ghostlike. Stepping inside he could hear nothing, like the house shielded him form the distant gunfire and screams. Swoftly walking through the hall into the kitchen, passing broken tables, knocked over chairs and a faint pool of blood seeping into the shag carpet. Looking only ahead he could see an open door, the back door. He continued, his persistent footsteps echoing through the dead house. His breath deepened, feet grew quicker and footsteps louder and ultimately reached the door.

It was hanging on one hinge, like a damaged portal to a new world, a world under attack. Left he looked again whilst standing in the alley, this time seeing more of the field. Aliens. Now transfixed he stared at these grey and brown beasts swinging their club like arms at nearby soldiers who were unloading whole magazines from point blank range, but to no effect. The size of two men, the grabbed and threw soldiers, neighbours and friends at others, braking them like crisp autumn leaves, killing them. Brutal. Then, out of nowhere one approached. The boy had only seen these ones on the news, 50 foot tall towers of extraterrestrail power and technology. It glided along the ground yet it was so tall it should have clumsily trudged through the thick mud of the farm. Heading for the farms barn and house, it crashed into them. An explosion so loud even the boy felt it and was suddenly transported to the battle field finding cover behind a bin in the alley.

The screams of men and women fighting for survival now becoming more apparent vanished because of a shadow. A shadow so large it easily dominated all of the alley and ether house on either side. It crept over the boy like a deadly plaque. Being thrown into the night, he slowly turned his head. standing above him, silently was one of these things. He fell onto his bum, back agianst the side of the bin. Looking up into its eyes he felt it staring back. Its large oval head and elongated slit of a mouth was still. This one was a pale green, orange blood seeping from several bullet wounds.

"JAMES!!!" he heard, breaking this moment of oneness between him and the animal. thsi scream jolted him back into realint and looking down, through the aliens head was a man, his father. Screaming, running and shooting he was only staring at James. "DAD!" scrieched the boy as the alien jolted forward withe every bullet finding its way into its back.

As his father closed in on them, he ran out of bullets and had to reload. This window of pain free oppourtunity opened up to the towering alien and silently, it lifted one of its legs, knee bent opposite to humans upto its face, aiming for James.
