Description
Paula Pellegrino South Garden Chinese Restaurant

Ranked among the Top 100 establishments in the entire country by Chinese Restaurant News for 2008, South Garden is a rare find of authentic cuisine amid countless eateries offering the common, “Americanized” version of Chinese cooking that would never be ordered, perhaps not even recognized, by anyone native to China. Every day from 11:00am to 3:00pm, South Garden features its signature Dim Sum, specially delivered on weekends from traditional carts brought tableside for diners to choose their selections. Dishes, in small or large portions, include delicacies like Parsley Shrimp Dumplings, Stuffed Bitter Melon, Beef Rice Pasta and Steamed Roast Pork Buns. South Garden’s full menu, served day and evening, is vast, with genuine Chinese dishes going on for pages, joining a multitude of more well-known selections. For people wishing to try new things and celebrate true Chinese fare, servers happily provide descriptions and advice based on individual tastes and cravings. They tailor suggestions to the degree of exploration one wants to reach, so even the most curious and thrill-seeking diner can be satisfied along with those who prefer to remain more within the realm of familiarity. Favorites include Peking Pork Chops, which are lightly breaded and served with a sweet & sour vinaigrette, Fresh Fish Steamed with Ginger and Scallion, Glazed Sautéed Shrimp with Walnuts and, of course, Extra Crispy Roast Duck. South Garden has recently undergone a renovation that has brought its atmosphere up to the level of its menu. With painted wall hangings, ceramic vases, pink orchids, green bamboo, paper lanterns and a freshwater fish tank, lucky patrons are transported to a faraway land long before the food even arrives to their table.
