A father faces a choice.
Wriggle and zig across the floor
as I reach the apartment door.

Making it painful to depart,
you grab and cleave with all your heart.

Working numbers, a losing game,
costing us time we can’t reclaim.

Fight this city just to endure
painfulness I have to obscure.

You make me smile, you make me sing.
I can do without everything.

Aware of all that we will miss
in pursuit of financial bliss.

My son, my boy, let’s leave this town,
I vow I’ll never put you down.

Wriggle and zig across the floor,
you hear my return to the door.
