A period of depression following the death of a loved relative.
Pieces of the past
find hidden doors
into this absorbant mind.

They filter in
cloud present beauty
in spite of resistance.

Rich shades of brown melt to muddy tones
Celestial blues blur to ashen gray
Light shadows into darkness.

If only a barrier could prevail
allowing joy to inch in
and a breath to be completed.

A fractured spirit could feel truth
know the essence of life.
Appreciate a childs laughter.

Perhaps I could cease trying to attain
this impossible dream for a moment
this illusive butterfly to be mine once again.
