a poem about an evening with a girl i knew some time ago.
It was in the near-darkness,
the only illumination being that from the television,
    that we kissed for the first time;
and that kiss was many things---
      all of which were good.
Her lips were as moist as the morning dew...
  warm as the July sun...
softer than anything I can imagine comparing them to...

And the feeling was perfect peace...
I'm sure she felt it too.

It was a kiss that poets far greater than I
  have written about for ages---
Brought on by complete understanding
and mutual attraction born or words
    better left unspoken---
even if we knew what those words are.

It was blissful and pure...
  untouched by all iniquity.
It was a total calm among the storms that surrounded us.
It was a beautiful stroke on canvas,
  and throughout it's course
    our walls fell down,
      our cages were opened,
        and we were free.
