This is a personal poem about a mother.
Waking up wrapped in a fleece blanket,
Wiping the drool off your once-sweet face,
Even though it’s 3 in the afternoon.

Glancing at the phone,
Tears trickled down those cheeks.
Looking through old pictures -
Where has the time has gone?
Gazing into the cracked mirror
Wondering when you stopped caring.

She scampered through town,
Acting older than she ought to,
And you didn’t have the courage.
He would try to understand,
Listening until the pain was too much to endure,
And yelling when he couldn‘t get through.

Another day has come and gone,
If only you had known,
There weren’t many of them left.
