A love cut short by the sea.
A LOST LOVE: a sonnet

This sea on whose shore I do walk today,
Pensively trotting, watching gentle waves,
Was not so calm that day it took away
My wife and I learnt how it ill behaves.

I was then a newly married husband;
She was proud of her aquatic prowess.
She went out swimming far away from sand,
So that her husband she may well impress.

She went too far and was overpowered
By waves that rose up like a tsunami.
My calls to her were not probably heard.
She disappeared, never returned to me.

I pine to meet her but there is no way.
For my lost love, I walk the shore today.

• Written as Shakespearean sonnet.
