A short poem about the struggles of being an orphan.
I am an orphan.
When my parents passed away
along went my extended family
With no strong roots
I feel like a potted tree.
at the foundation of who I am I stand alone.
I have children,
I have branches.
I have friends,
I have leaves.
I was planted once,
But the soil was so vile I almost died,
I hold out the hope that one day
I will find my rightful place in the sun to be planted
and perhaps my roots will grow strong.
