Using Metaphor and Similes
1) George has been working at the same automobile factory six days a week, ten hours a day, for the past twelve years.

George felt as worn out as a punch drunk zombie on antifreeze.
George felt as worn out as four bald tires on a pimped out funeral car.
George felt as worn out as a rusted out station wagon in the jaws of the crushing machine.

2) Katie had been working all day in the summer sun.

Katie felt like she had just wrestled Hades to give birth to a heavenly garden.
Katie felt like the manure that nourished her perennial garden.
Katie feels limp and wilted, and her sunburn is as vibrant as a burning bush in autumn.

3) This is Kim Su’s first day at college, and she is in the middle of a chaotic morning registration session.

Kim was confused at registration due to so many people shrieking like banshees.
Kim thought everyone was speaking at once, like dozens of TVs tuned to different stations in the same room.
Kim is so confused it makes her feel like she has been spun around hundreds of times.

4) Victor spent his entire summer vacation watching quiz shows and soap operas on television.

Victor now reacts to every situation like a drama queen with all the answers.
Victor is a smart dude now, but talks like he’s an actor in a sappy melodrama.
Victor is smart as a fifth grader now, and as emotional as a widow on her tenth marriage.

5) After all the troubles of the past few weeks, Sandy felt peaceful at last.

Sandy felt as calm as still waters in a forest of melting snow.
After Sandy shed her troubles, she felt light as a yellow balloon sailing across a cloudless sky.
When Sandy’s troubles were resolved, she burst into song and dance like Billy Elliott.
