This Old Face
(17 Lines)

It’s taken years to craft this face
That once was touched by only Grace.
The lines that you now see carved here,
I chiseled with both grief and fear,
And dreams that faded, turned aside,
As passions flamed, then later died.
And sorrows, too, and some regret
For expectations never met.

But –

The deepest features that you see
Enjoy a different legacy.
I sculpted them with joy and peace,
Much happiness and some caprice,
And love that lasted through the years
Despite the anger and the tears.
My face is now a work of art
Upon which I have carved my heart.

Written for the prompt:  What is your craft? What do you (or your character) assemble, twist, turn, and/or shake into a new reality? Or maybe, you (or your character) are just like me – all thumbs – when it comes to arts and crafts. Write a story or poem about making (or not being able to assemble) projects.
