What are we, and what makes us feel pain? Part 1 of 3
I only scare you because I love you

I only laugh because I know you'll look
at me and suffer.

And maybe in this suffering, you'll
understand that pain is a tangible thing.

We mold it, we shape it
it evolves in us, and we shape
ourselves to give it room
to grow and change and live and die

We are the glass,
pain is our fruity, fizzy,
half-caffeinated beverage of choice

it's funny how this works
How we understand that matter
is outside of our limited powers of creation
how energy makes its own damn
way through barriers
and finds its own damn dimensions
to pass through space, and change

it's funny how we understand that
Newton wrote the laws of non-creation,
his laws are invariably true,
and God has no power here.

and yet we can't stop believing that
we are the true inventors
and on the sixth day
after the grass, and the oceans, the sun
and the little puppy dogs,
we made each other laugh
and we made each other suffer
