Flash Fiction:Vase, scroll, doubt
A torch lit the rough hewn rock tunnel, and appeared to float in the air as it moved. After a couple minutes of travel, the tunnel ended in a wooden wall and a door. A key appeared in mid air, unlocked the door, then disappeared. The door opened onto a dark cavern.

“Mulden? Are you there?” The torch entered the room and closed the door. “I have the scroll.”

The darkness shifted and wavered to reveal what anyone would know to be the laboratory of a wizard. Three figures stood around a table in the middle of the room. Mulden, the wizard, addressed the floating torch, “No need for such a disguise here, Robim.”

Robim, popped into visibility, put out his torch, and produced the scroll in its bone case. He approached the table and laid the case on the table. A man in full plate armor reached out and opened the case, unrolled the scroll and held it up to the light. Doubt crossed his face after several seconds. “I cannot read this. What language is this?” He put the unrolled scroll onto the table and pinned the corners down with an empty vase, humanoid skull, pouch of coins and finally, his jeweled dagger.

“It doesn’t matter Lord Eun, I have a spell...”, Mulden quickly cast a spell on the scroll and then gestured to the lord. Eun, Mulden and Robin crowded around the end of the table to read the now revealed script. The characters on the scroll remained unrecognizable.

The fourth, silent occupant of the room, was opposite the trio, but reached out and picked up the heavy stone table, spun it around until the scroll was right side up and gestured.

Robim’s mouth made a silent “O.”
