"...creature, feared by all...few seamen found enough gall..."
There once was a powerful octopus
Who aptly fit the name, Smalley –
He sunk seafaring ships with a vengeance,
Assailing these boats in the wide open sea.

This gigantic creature, feared by all,
Struck ocean vessels of enormous size;
Very few seamen found enough gall
To sail his waters, for they were too wise.

Then a shipping magnate named Carpenter
Decided to change his company’s fate –
He hired a Navy Seal named Small to enter
This deadly arena, before it grew too late.

Small assembled a team to pinpoint
The center of all the octopus’s attacks,
Then he set sail in a boat to appoint
Himself to the creature, with planes over their backs.

Small’s boat was the speediest vessel around,
And above him flew aircraft with a very large net –
The octopus attacked without making a sound,
Tentacles circled his boat, fast like a jet.

Small poured on the motor and turned on a dime,
With Smalley the Octopus left clutching a wave –
Then the octopus slammed into the boat, but this time,
The net snagged Smalley – and not the captain, so brave!

The octopus was brought to land and destroyed,
And Carpenter made our hero a deal –
He was guaranteed riches but still couldn’t avoid
Carpenter's offer of an octopus meal!
