This is a story about a girl who grew up with her daddy to raise her.
This is a story about a girl who grew up without her daddy to raise her.
It all started in Chicago,IL This tall,lighted skinned Black woman with long pretty dark brown hair name Ivy. She is from Memphis,TN. She came to came to Chicago in the 1950 to find a job. She live with her cousin Juanita. She found a job at a corner store. She worked as a store clerk. While she was working this meduim brown skinned muscular build man. Who like a boxer.

He came into the store to buy somethin. He introduced himself as Bob to Ivy. He was from St. Louis,MO. They dated for awhile. They got married in1960.
Robert had two children from his late wife name Iona. His children name Robert Jr. a boy, Iona, a girl. When Ivy got pregant with her and Bob first child together. The baby was a girl born on a Sunday morning on March 7,1965.

The baby was light skinned like her mother. She had a head full of dark brown pretty hair. Bob name her"Bridget". Ivy give her a middle name "Jerlene" after Ivy's mother first name. Bob name "Bridget" stand for "Strength" means to be strong in what you in life. Bob used to take hislttle girl Bridget to Lake Michigan to swim. Bob would have Bridget on his stomach.

While he swim on his back in the lake. Ivy was so afraid that Bridget would fall into the water. Bridget knew she was safe with her daddy. Robert Jr. used to take his little sister around Chicago for a walk. One day in 1969, Ivy and Bridget had to go to Memphis to stay awhile. They stayed with Ivy's mother,Jerlene a light skinned Black woman. She was a strong woman.

One day Bridget was playing with her cousins  who stayed across the street from their grandmother. Bridget said,"Who know how to play truth or dare?"
Bridget dared her cousins who can stay in the middle of the street the longest. Until a car come down the street. Her cousins got out the street. Bridget was the only one that got hit by a car. Bridget was four years old.

She had to stay in the hospital for a month. After she recover from the accident. She started elementary school. These girls from school used to teased Bridget. They thought Bridget better than them. Because  Bridget was light skinned with long pretty hair. Bridget would fight these girls back to defend herself.

Bridget's dad  told her not to be afraid of anyone in your life. One day Bridget and Ivy had to go back to Chicago in 1977. Bridget was twelve years old. Bridget's daddy was dying from prostate cancer. Bridget seen her daddy for the last time at his house. Hed died at the V.A. hospital in Chicago. He was a middlweight boxer. He was famous in Chicago.

At the funeral. It was so many people line up all around the corner of the funeral home to pay their respect for my daddy. I never seen anything like th at before.  After the funeral,Ivy and Bridget had to go back to Memphis. One day
the day before Bridget 13th birthday in March in1978. She let this neighborhood boy ride her bike.

She tried to stop him from riding the bike. She jumped in front of the front wheel of the bike. She broke her left leg.She had to spend her birthday in the hospital. After  the broken leg accident. Ivy had notice that Bridget's back was
crooked on one side. Ivy taken Bridget to see the doctor.  She had to have spinal surgery, The doctor had to put a metal rod on her spinal to be straight. Bridget was going to the tenth grade in high school.

Bridget had to wear a body cast for a year. After the body cast came off . Bridget graduated from high school in 1983. She  went  Pasadena,CA for the summer. She had a good time while she was there. She came back to Memphis to go to college. She got pregant with two sons name Marlon and Marco. Bridget got married to Nathaniel Malone in 2000. The six monthe later her husband died of a heart attack. Bridget doesn't have a husband to love. But,she have her mother who had colon cancer and her two son to love.
