A poet’s mind is marked by constant background activity.
A POET’S LIFE

The life of a poet does
Never have a respite
From thoughts, whims and ideas
That constantly do smite.

Often it does so happen
When it is past midnight,
Some word or a phrase or tune
Does make me sit upright.

The rhyming words assemble
In a rhythmic pattern.
The forming of a poem
I can quickly discern.

This moment is critical
And unless it’s captured,
The silky web of the words
Would be at once fractured.

Be it two or three a.m.
I must put on the light.
Ere I forget it I must
Put it in black and white.

When driving my Volkswagen
Or when in the bathroom,
I must carry a pencil
To catch the words that loom.

But all this uncertainty
That ever does pervade
Is truly rewarded when
A poem is well made.
