A poem about being suspended in that period of disbelief when something has ended.
“Waiting”

I sat by the window
wrapped in a blanket.
I sat all day
waiting for something.

I waited for something
and instead received nothing.
No sign, no message, no call.
No epiphany.

When it seemed I could wait no more
I waited until I got angry.
I got so angry I tipped the chair
threw the blanket and spilled my tea.

I went to bed
wrapped in a blanket.
I lay all night
waiting for morning.

I lay there waiting
for the disbelief to pass
for the anger to pass
for the night to pass.

I waited for the sunrise
and for the patience
and for the strength
to get up and wait again.
