Just a brief prologue for my next novel I'm writing.Chapter will be posted soon.
Prologue:

I tilted my head up letting the hum of the fans above lull me to sleep. The desk was not something exactly comfortable to lean against but in the cold cramp of a room, there was nowhere to lie down. My head leaned against the hard mahogany wood and I closed my eyes, wishing for sleep that would not come. What am I doing? I should be trying to escape but all I wanted to do was go to the soft land of dreams, away from reality. Shivers went through my body, automatically I wrapped my arms protectively around myself and felt the cold air sting my skin, leaving goose bumps.

If I had to be honest with myself, which I hated doing, I was going to die in the next hour. Either from freezing to death or they’d come back... and finish me... It was luck alone that I had gotten to this small office in time but now I was feeling the regret that I had stayed here. I should’ve gone outside. There had been a chance for me to take the elevator, ride down the twenty floors in time and run into the fading afternoon sunlight. Their only weakness, which was typical for bloodsucking vampires. Of course I had to be the stupid one and trap myself in the building with them. They still didn’t know where I was since the cold of the air dulled their senses a bit but it was also giving me pneumonia, something also that my stupid freaked out brain got me into.

However, all thoughts cleared from my mind as I heard a clear, loud tapping on the office door. I had no idea why they had knocked. It certainly wasn’t to ask my permission to come in. Quickly, I slid around behind the desk, pressing myself into the tight space under the draws on either side. There were more knocks, with less pauses in between each one and I realised that it wasn’t knocking, whoever it was were bashing the door down. I could see splinters of wood fly from the door and onto the ground, a whole getting bigger each time. I didn’t see why the person didn’t just knock it down but I guess her or she could be building suspense to my final death. My leg began to ache, from where I had fallen, in the small area, and I repressed a moan.

I decided to look under the narrow space at the back of the desk, to see who would actually be killing me. Maybe it would be Kieran, or Troy. As the door finally creaked open on its hinges, and swept more cold air into the room, I wished it would be Harry. I had at least a chance beating him, even if I was injured. My eyes were bludging out of their sockets by the time the person’s feet came to rest before the desk, their shoes were faded red Volleys, scribbled in with a black sharpie marker and I instantly saw my name in among the bold letters.
“Dennis?!”
