STORM WARNING

Blue skies, but dark water, is a clear warning
of the coming of a storm in the early morning.
Above me the sky is a strange shade of blue,
yet the lake waters are quite a different hue.

The deeper the water, the darker it will get,
a bottomless vision it seems to be, and yet,
I feel no fear of the oncoming storm warning.
I look up and see the blue sky of mourning.

The despair that floods me I won't forget.
Mother Nature turns vixen, a very safe bet!
The wind picks up speed and turns colder,
somehow I am aware of being much older.

I turn away from the lake with water so dark,
No song of the birds, no sign of meadowlark.
Once inside my home, so safe and sound,
I listen to wind and rain start to come down.

A true storm warning comes with the sky,
a lesson long ago learned, a fool such as I.
I will survive this storm, and others to come,
for God's in control, when all's said and done.
