The perfect last goodbye
It’s a cold spring morning, the twenty-fourth of May
But forever Dad and I will call it “Ride The Wind Day”
First goes the letters, words she wrote so sincerely
Next goes the books that she held so dearly
We stand together without communication
My heart hastily beats, a subtle indication
Third is the pillows she used to muffle his snores
Tomatoes from her garden, so high they soar
You helped us through the pain we stumbled into
You helped us grow in the short time that we knew you
Sand from the beach, as she loved the sun
The wooden spoon we used to lick when the cookies were almost done
A tear from my eye, a lock of my hair
You can’t make anything last forever, you won’t always be there
The ashes from her body with all her favorite things
Mom, you can’t stay here on Earth, it’s time that you ride the wind
